[He bites back the retort that's on the tip of his tongue, that Spock can't possibly give that much of a damn. He's trying to avoid unnecessary fights.]

There's not a whole lot to understand about me. And I'm a terrible teacher.

[He's not the best person to be learning about humanity from. Wouldn't want to scare Spock off.]

But what're you interested in learning?

[Of course, Spock always cares in his own way... and he is incredibly loyal.]

As you have already witnessed, I do not comprehend well the human form of humour. Exposure to this would... assist me in... to borrow a human phrase, 'coming to terms' with my human side.

[Spock... does not admit that to a lot of people...]

[Because it's so unbelievable is why it feels so good. Saori never thought she'd be sharing a picnic with a man she liked...pretty much ever. She'd never really even expected to like a man. Let alone whatever this was. Dating.

Wordlessly, she waved a hand, calling up wind to set up a spread. The basket contains small containers of Japanese soups, steaming dumplings, little balls of chicken, and even some carefully prepared sushi and rice. Japanese food, of course.]

I hope you're alright with eating Japanese. I didn't really think to include sandwiches.

So what? You want to hang around me and learn about scathing sarcasm and affectionate mocking?

[Really? His life has become very surreal recently.]

To be fair, I do do a lot of that.

I would not word it exactly as such... however, that is essentially correct.

[Spock hesitates for a moment... and shuffles his stance.]

Though, it would seem that I have garnered a rather hostile response in the residences of this floor...

It would be pertinent to rectify that before I make my presence a common one. [Spock gives Barton a look... one that says "will you help me make good with the other people here? They kind of hate me right now..."]

[He hadn't been expecting to see Spock looking so awkward. It's not quite human awkward but the signs aren't too different.]

We're a rather unique group of people. We take care of our own.

[He hadn't asked in so many words, but he's fairly sure every one of them has seen more than any human really should.

He gives Spock a hard look for a moment before sighing.]

That would be a good idea. Why don't you stick around for dinner or something. We tend to eat as a group.

[Spock was rather surprised by the sudden invite...

...and bows his head.]

Very well... I am honoured by your invitation. I thank thee. [Then he hesitates for a moment....]

Though... do you think it wise to join everyone in a social setting at the moment? [Considering all the... interesting powers everyone has, he wouldn't want to cause an explosion or something.]

[He laughs softly when she calls up a breeze, using it to set up the food. It was impressive for him, and he liked something about this practical, useful use of magic or whatever it was.]

I will eat pretty much anything. And this looks really good. Thankyou, Saori.

[It certainly beat stale bread and ants.]

I-it's nothing. It's not hard to prepare.

[She can't really help but stammer just a bit at the compliment. She sits up and offers him a small plate, holding it two handed in an oddly domestic gesture, with a slight bow of her head.

Model of manners, this one. And she didn't mind showing this demure side to him.]

It's just dinner. Kind of like feeding time at the zoo.

[The formality is a little strange but considering Spock's demeanour, it's probably par for the course.]

Oh we're all mature adults... Well, Coulson is. Ben kind of is.

Very well Mister Barton, this should prove to be an interesting experience. [He bows his head once more.]

Very interesting. And my name's Clint. I really hate being called Mister Barton.

But you took the time to make it. [Which counted for a lot in Clint's book. Hell, taking the time to buy him takeout was a big deal. It meant someone cared enough about his appalling eating habits to make him get something substantial.

It was part of why he enjoyed the floor's group meals so much.

He's a little surprised by the gesture, a little awkward, but he smiles as he takes the plate, fingers brushing hers.]

So, where should I start?

I'll definitely settle for fixable. [A grin plays over her lips, but it's brief. Clint wants to help her improve, so she's definitely paying attention--

Even if she doesn't quite get it.]

What? Open my mouth?

[He gives a soft laugh, and shakes his head.]

It sounds real stupid, i know.

If you open your mouth really wide, you tend to keep your eyes open really wide and you'll notice more if you try to close them.

Wherever you would like. I tried to pick things that were easy to eat and wouldn't clash. And it should all be familiar food, I wouldn't want to surprise you with anything unpleasant. [She takes up a bowl of food herself, an apple, soup and rice, and slowly begins to eat, watching for his reactions. If he looked uncertain or unsure of something, she'd step in and explain, or try and find something he might like better...]

Well, I’m not going to argue with you. [Because, yeah. If not stupid, certainly ridiculous. But there’s a logic to it, supposedly, which leaves Pepper the task of getting over the mental image.]

This is going to feel so weird. [Which she’s certain won’t help her aim at all. She glances back at Clint, not entirely sure she wants him to watch her doing this, before she finally just does it. Mouth open, point, shoot.

Turns out he's right. But it still feels weird.]

[He gives her a lopsided smile, raising an eyebrow expectantly, because he's the instructor here. And hell, he's seen worse.

She fires again, and yeah, he can see the difference already. Good.]

Better already. That's something to keep doing until it just becomes instinct to keep your eyes open.

The other problem is flinch. You anticipate the kick of the gun, so you pull react and it drags you off target.

Well in that case...

[He tries a little bit of everything starting with some of the soup, and mixing things with rice as he feels like. He's never been a picky eater and it all tastes pretty good to him.]

Okay, I am sold on Japanese food. This is great. Really great.

I'm glad you like it. It's all I really know how to cook.

[She smiles somewhat bashfully, looking away. She's obviously quite pleased. Her next question came falteringly, almost like she was embarrassed to ask...]

Um. Adele mentioned to me that you...could sing. And that you liked music. I was wondering if...maybe you would? I will play for you after, if you like.

I can make fairly decent stew. Anything that you can cook for twenty people at a time in one big pot.

[He leans forward a little at that look, setting his plate aside and raising an eyebrow.]

I can sing. I dunno how good I am. I've never been taught or anything. [He looks a little bashful himself.]

But sure, I can manage something. And I'd like to hear you play.

Well...please do. I'd love to hear it. Music is a huge part of my life. And I think it would be lovely to hear you.

[She, in turn reaches around and takes out her shamisen, a three stringed instrument she was very, very fond of.]

In return, I'll play and sing for you. It will be fun.

Or motivation to keep them open in the first place. [Seriously, Pepper does not want to think about how she looked firing the gun just then.

The flinch is a little harder to think about. She looks down at the gun, then to Clint again.]

The first time I fired it, I didn’t realize how much kick it had. I wasn’t ready for it at all, and it jerked my arms up pretty badly.

[So she’s been compensating—too much, apparently.]

Alright then. Gimme a second.

[He sips at his drink, considering for a moment while he watches Saori pull out an instrument that he doesn't really recognise. He hums softly for a moment before starting to sing in a low voice.]
