[She scrubs her face and turns back, looking him in the eye for a moment. Calculating. Looking for something, perhaps. Whether or not she finds it or finds Barton wanting, no one can say.]

No strenuous activity, try not to sleep on the cuts oddly, etc, etc. I'm certain you've already been given the lecture, yes?

[He looks back impassively. His life has been full of people judging him and he's rarely given a damn. Or at least, he's rarely let anyone know that he gives a damn. Now is no different.]

Yeah. I have medication and strict instructions not to cripple myself by trying to draw my bow too soon.

[She's under no obligation to make the offer. There's nothing of the man before her that is at all like the man she knew and cared for. Barton was an entirely different animal.

He seems to have more in common with her than he does Rick, and what they do have in common was precious little.

Perhaps that's why she makes it. She sighs and walks back over, packing up her case.]

[He looks surprised at the offer, the mask slipping for a moment, and he nods.]

[She closes her eyes. Shakes her head.]

[He's silent for a moment and then manages an amused look.]

I wasn't expecting anyone to come rushing to me rescue. Don't worry about it.

We've a strong sense of community, here.

[It's easier to play it off that way. It's the only explanation she has that makes sens, really. Case packed up she rests it against her leg and looks back over, manages a tired half smile.]

Besides. In a village full of gods and heroes those of us without such advantages should look out for each other.

Not something I've ever had. A community I mean. No-one had any reason to come for me.

[Maybe for a while in the circus, but even then, they'd all turned a blind eye to the bruises and black eyes.

He returns the smile with a small one of his own.]

It's...something that takes a bit of time to become accustomed to.

[It's a tentative gesture, and she's not all that certain she should even bother making it. But she reaches out all the same to pat one of his hands.]

I bet it does.

[Community is something that people like him don't get.

The gesture earns a genuinely surprised look, but he doesn't pull away.]

[She offers him a faint nod and one last pat of his hand before standing and walking to the door. This went far better than the previous two discussions. Perhaps she'd only needed to lose her temper. Or perhaps she needs time away. Things to work out later. Adele hesitates at the door and looks back over her shoulder for a moment. And then she's gone.]
